Code Blues!!!
Code Blues!!!
I took my "02" 5.9 (codes 1693,0500, 0216) to the dealer on Monday and
they did the diagnostic and called to let me know that it was going to need a VSS, checked out the LP and told me it was pumping fuel over the min. specs. and was running just fine, nothing wrong with IP they said. I also had them replace the air filter as it looked a little dirty. They cleared the codes and and away I went. 2 days later the occasional dead pedal again, slight but very noticable hesitation on acceleration at times. Next time before starting I ran the on off on off on diagnostic and it has popped the 0216 code again. I called the dealer again and let them know and scheduled an appointment. Any suggestions when they tell me everything is fine this time, because I know something is going wrong here, this truck is not running fine.
Just turned 73,000 miles this week I think it might be their problem.
Thanx!!!!

It's been my experience that the 0216 code means business. I had that code, and had that code cleared twice. I drove the truck for a couple of months then the IP kicked the bucket. It sounds like it should be the dealers problem now. Those codes don't lie.
Had it in to the dealer today, told my story and they put it on the machine, they called Cummins and were told to put in a new IP and LP. They suggested switching over to the lift pump in the tank as they have had much better luck with that. Completely covered by warranty. Will get it done in a few days, I am wondering if I should put in new injectors while they are at it anyway, and if there are any other suggestions. After warranty is off I am going to add some more ponies anyway, can't wait.
Good on you and good on DC.
Glad you caught it and that it was covered by warranty. Gages, at least fuel pressure, is a must, and especially after the warranty runs out. If they will put the block mounted FP on, I would suggest that. Also, it would probably be a good idea to ask them if gages were OK since it's still under warranty. Don't want to give them an excuse to cancel it.
If you don't mind, where are you and what dealership are you using?
