Maybe its the cold temperatures up here or something but it looks like I picked a bad day to do maintenance or something. Anyhow, I need to do an oil change and I regularly clean the IAT sensor on every other change. Well, done it several times before but today pulling the IAT sensor was especially challenging. It was either the bulky clothing I was wearing (its cold) or possible that the plastic on that sensor was really brittle (again the cold) but it fell apart while removing it. Okay, so time for a new one right? Call the local dealership, its a special order only item that they have never stocked nor has any other dealership nearby every stocked. Somehow, I had imagined that the IAT sensor would be a fairly common item. Guess I was wrong. So I ordered a new one from the dealer to the tune of just under $40 and it won't be here until Tuesday. So now, I'm looking at the old one and thinking maybe a little superglue will hold the plastic back together long enough to keep the truck on the road until the new part comes in on Tuesday. So, I superglued the plastic fitting back together (luckily it was a clean break) and in the process (didn't even realize it), but I superglued three of my fingers to the plastic fitting in the process. UGGG!

Anyhow, it was too funny to even get ****** off (my usual reaction when things don't go my way in the garage) so had to share. BTW, it takes a while to type one-handed.

Consequently, I think I'll put off the fuel filter change until next oil change since I'm having such good luck today.

 

I've heard people say they use brake cleaner to clean the IAT. That's a bad idea, as brake cleaner destroys the plastic. You should use an electronics cleaner. Maybe that's what caused the failure?

 

DO NOT USE THE OLD SENSOR!

If the plastic cage falls off you are in big trouble! Remove the sensor and take off the broken cage. Use can still use the sensor until the new one comes in, but without the cage!
