Question Checking & Re-Torqueing Heads Every 40k..........

So my dad and I were dicussing my truck over the holidays and he asked me If I have had the heads retorqued, I said no. Apparently he has a good friend that had a 24 valve (just like mine) and he always had the heads retorqued every 40k miles. Now I have put about 44k miles on my truck in the 2+years of ownership and have never had the heads checked let along retorqued. I looked in the FAQ in the 24 valve forums and did not see any posts about it, but I did see apost about valve adjustment. What are the mile intervels for the valve adjust (it did not mention it in that particular thread) and what is the deal with the retorqueing of the heads? Seems like valve adjust and retorqueing of the heads should be done at the same time, a "while your in there" mentality. Can you guys shed some light on these topics please.
TIA-

Don't worry with it unless you are running boost higher than stock.

I've wandered if re torquing would stress the HG , after many heat cycles , getting brittle .

Yeah, I don't know about doing that on a stock headgasket. I've never heard of it, and I'd be kinda affraid to do it and disturb the gasket. I know you have to do it a bunch when you switch to head studs. I think the valve adjustment was every 100,000miles or maybe 150,000, I don't quite remember. It can't hurt to atleast check it.

Should the bolts be removed and put back with lubricant underneath the head of the bolt to advoid twisting?

It depends on what your running as far as lubricating goes. Check your install manual as to what type of torque readings they're looking for, it should say dry or otherwise. If its a dry torque, then no lube...otherwise, like the old adage, "Any lube is better than no lube"

Just try not to spit on it...

Why risk creating problems? These engines don't require re-torqueing. That is for thin blocks and heads which do squirm around in service.
