Alright have an issue while driving I noticed my check engine light came on and my tach dropped to 0 and wouldn't move all other gauges look great, runs normal but when I come to an idle the truck begins to lope extremely hard. This also occurs whenever the truck goes into gear from park. Drive or reverse doesn't make a difference. This isn't an everyday occurance it seems to come and go randomly. Haven't pulled up a code on a scanner I can try tomorrow if neecessary. Any ideas on what might be going on? Thanks for any help.

Get a code reader and pull the Malfunction Code.
If you get a Crank Position Sensor (CKP) code, pull the sensor and look for signs of 'scuffing' on the end.
A few of us had a similar problem that turned out to be the screws holding the Tone Ring on the crankshaft backing out allowing the Tone Ring to move enough to hit the end of the CKP.
If that's the case, the oil pan has to be pulled to remove, loctite, and resecure the mounting screws.

Of course, if you get the CKP code and pull it and there's no scuffing on the end, it could just be a bad sensor.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for 'ya.

 

exactly same symptoms except that truck runs fine and only twice today it almost cut out and started immediately. very strange.

 

Mine did something similar where it would start and then surge a little and while backing out it would rev up a little. Don't remember the code but it pointed to the TPS. I swapped it out and end of problem. Twogun
