Check engine light is on
My check engine light just came on. Truck seems to run fine. Is there anyway to get a code on my own or do I need to take it to a shop and hook it up to their computer?

Truck is a 2001

Most Autoparts stores will scan it for you for free.

There is a way with turning the key on and off three times, but I do remember how to do it. Google it - you will find it.

Did the key trick. This is what I came up with:

P1693 Generic fault indicating a fault in the bus or PCM/ECM interface

What does this mean????

Means you need a scanner to read it - go to Autozone or similar most will scan it for free these days.
