Cheap fix for more turbo noise

Not that I am recommending or telling you to do this but it was done on my truck by mistake when I got it back from the shop.

For those running the stock air box, if that little plastic piece that goes between the air box and the fender were to fall out, a typical result would be a little more turbo whine for those of you that like that. I am running a K&N which allows for a little more whine on top of that.

For those that want to go all they way and make the turbo sound like a fighter jet taking off, my sons truck has the Afe on it with the hole cut in the firewall probably from a former Scotty II intake system that may have been removed. His turbo sounds like it is trying to suck the glove box through the firewall when you hammer on it.

Again, I am not recommending or telling you to do any of this, just letting you know from experience what happens if certain evolutions were to mysteriously occur and the results thereof.

A buddy of mine found that the piece reduces airflow when he ran larger injectors (similar to DD2's) with his 3-button Edge. With the connector piece in place, it would pull the filter minder down completely, without the connector the filter minder was not effected. Of course, this simple test included a new filter.

Also you can take out the silencer ring in the turbo fo more whistle and airflow. I made a few holes in my stock airbox to help too.

ok, couple of dumb questions for the uneducated-
first, where is the silencer ring on the turbo, and second, what is involved in yanking it?

FYI

Snowrodeo...Welcome! It's the brass colored "ring" in the air intake throat of your Turbo.

If you want more noise - yank it. But "more air flow"? Moking, I doubt it.

The designers of the TAG told me their testing showed faster spool up and better dyno performance with the ring in there. They made a ring to fit my B-1 for that very reason.

I have no hard personal data but believe them!

I tried removing that little plastic piece today just for giggles, I didn't notice a difference in the noise level. I did however almost dump a load in my pants when I saw how dirty the stock air filter was.
BHAF was ordered and will be here in the am, can't wait.

I've pulled the the plastic air horn out of the fender and noticed a little more whine from the Turbo. But when you let the jake have it.... People roll up windows in Boise, Idaho! Some how they just don't like the hissing rummble that my 02 makes...
