Charging Question
When I first start the truck I noticed that it was not charging enough. It would read between 10 & 12volts. As the ruck ran abit (under 1 min.) the guage would go up to normal charging. The headlights would confirm for me by getting brighter that the reading was correct. Is this normal,if not any ideas?
Thanks

Re:Charging Question
That is normal. The low charging is caused by the intake manifold warming grid. This grid kicks on and off until the intake manifold reaches a certain temperature.

Re:Charging Question
Your intake grid heaters come on below (I think) 50 degrees. They'll cycle for 3 minutes or until you exceed 18-20 MPH. They have a pretty high draw, which you'll see in the voltmeter and vehicle lights. This is completely normal and you should only worry if it's cold and you DON'T get the cycling.

As your batteries get older, you'll even get a check engine light as the initial draw brings them down below 10 volts. Mine are getting to the point where I'm going to have to start looking for new ones. 5 years isn't too bad though!

Re:Charging Question
Thanks for the help, I feel much better now. My usual reaction would be to get another alternator or something, but due to the knowledge of the people here I haven't wasted money.....more for Bombing ;D
