Charging problem
Charging problem
Hi All,
I have 2000 2500 with the Cummins. I get a "check gages" light, and the volt meter slowley drops to zero. I suspect the voltage regulator. Anyone know if the voltage regulator is integral to the alternator (can it be serviced rather than just replacing the whole alt). Or any other cause?
My intake heater solenoids just went about 2 weeks ago too. And the starter 3 days before that... (can you say T-u-n-d-r-a?) Any feedback is appreciated...

The voltage is regulated by the ECM. There is also a temp sensor under the driverside battery that tells the ECM how much voltage it needs. Pull your alt. off and get it tested. Mine just died all of a sudden last year.
