Changing motor mts..where to jack?

Like the title says, I discovered that the rubber is wasted on one of my mounts so I'm replacing both sides with Energy Suspension stuff. I don't have a lift and was planning on using either a bottle jack or floor jack. Sooooo, where is the best place to put the jack and do I need to loosen the rear mounts? Any other time saving hints????

I'm hoping this cures the feedback I'm getting in the pedals and column when going slow over rough stuff...

Are you planning to put a jack under the oil pan? Even with a wood block to distribute the weight, I don't think I'd want to trust the oil pan to support the weight of the engine. I'd use a hoist to support the engine from above.

Thats really not an option for me because I don't have a lift or cherry picker. I do have an overhead hoist but can't use it due to the hood being in the way. I guess I'll just have to play it by ear and if I don't feel comfortable doing it, I'll just take it to a mechanic...who will probably jack it up using the oil pan...

take the hood off, takes 5 minutes. You can do it by yourself if you have long arms, I have done this before

I did set mine on the floor only supported by the oil pan,

OP I imagine if you made some cribbing so that you grab both the up and lower parts of the pan and maybe a bit of the tran you would be good to go, just need to spread the weight out.

I had my truck at the dealership a bunch of years ago for warranty on a leaking pan gasket and I stood there while they changed it.

Of course the truck was on a lift but the tech put a jack stand (tall one) under the harmonic balancer and lowered the truck to raise the motor off the mounts. He removed the fan assembly but said that all you need to do is actually pull the shroud loose.

Since then I have done this at home on 6 different trucks and it works just fine for motor mounts or oil pan removal.

I did the same thing with a floor jack and a length of 2x6 lumber. Set it up in there and lift the motor off the mounts. The only thing you have to watch is the fan shroud on the motor. It takes a couple of minutes to pop it loose and raise away, it works great. Nothing else needs to be removed or loosened up to raise the motor.

When your done, lower the motor back into the saddles of the mounts and tighten everything up and your good to go.
