Carter makes the OEM pump.....the 4601hp is Carter # for the pump.....the only difference is that there is 2 studs that you must connect your power wires to with ring terminals instead of the OEM pigtail that is attached to the OEM pump......I have seen the OEM pump pigtail removed from the old pump and then ring terminals were attached to the end of it to connect it to the 4601.....then you just glob a bit of silicone on the terminals to seal them up from the elements.

That's my question also...How would you wire the pump? I would like to add this Carter 4601 pump near the fuel tank.

I guess I was misunderstanding.....I was not interested in a pusher pump but rather installing the 4601 in place of the oem lift pump....

There are 2 different 4601 hp's. One is metric thread the other is npt thread. Metric is what comes stock. The npt one is basically for general gasoline applications (remove mechanical pump and install electric) in which there are 2 studs on the bottom. Are there any other differences, I don't know.

I have been using the npt threaded pumps with 90 deg nipples and eliminated the banjo bolts, then cut the wires next to the molded terminal on the bottom of the pump and added ring terminals. This keeps the oem pigtail intact.

I will add I have had decent service from the npt style pump but there have been several occasions where the pump did not last more than 2 weeks and I had to return it, but that's why you should always carry a spare.

They all fail eventually, carry a spare or get a fass and forget about it.

There will be no FASS in my future....they price about $750 CDN around here and it would be a mess after one salt soaked winter mounted on the frame rail.

Same here, salt eats everything up on the underside.
