Yes, need a press to get bearing off shaft. You can drive new bearing on with hammer.
There are two different type carrier bearings (Dodge calls it a 'propeller shaft center bearing'). They are not interchangable.
My NAPA replacement has been good for over 100,000 miles.

I do not remember two choices either, but Field Service Manual says there are??
I don't really remember having to press the bearing off, either. Just regergitating from the book.

There was a time back in 04-05 when a lot of posts talked about needing to change out carrier bearings. It was a time when many 2nd Gens were in the 100,000-150,000 range.
I was replacing 2 u-joints at 110,000 and since I had my drive shaft out, I did the carrier also. Mine looked fairly warn but not dead.

I have 185k and with 60k with my lift and putting a new engine in the truck last year I'm slowly replacing parts here and there.. my u-joints and wheel bearings and ball joints did those over winter. now its carrier, and soon the leaking vac pump and power steering seal..
At about 270k of relatively heavy use, my carrier bearing started giving me trouble. Kept popping out of the bushing. Found that the plastic on the splines of the second piece was peeling off and binding up. BIG pain. Tried many things (even a pillow block) before just having a 4" single piece made. Problem solved.
A press is not needed. Mine was almost 200k miles old in the salt belt and it came off with 2 chisels pounded in to wedge it off, then a punch to get it all the way off.
There are two types, an expensive and inexpensive. One hangs down a bit (overall bearing assembly) and bolts from the back of the bracket, the other has 2 ears off the side that bolt through the bracket and is a bit shorter. THe shorter one is about half the price and lasts just as long, so 2 pieces of 1" sq tubing side by side make up the difference nicely. I just welded them to the bottom of the hanger bracket and bolted through the gap in between them, and it worked great.
Just make sure you get the ID on the bearing right, FWIW mine is 1.550".
