Can I add Limited Slip or Locker to Dana 70?

I wanted to know how hard it is to add a limited slip or locker to a Dana 70?

Currently it spins 1 wheel only checked my data at dealer to make sure.

Should already have it. Maybe yours is worn. My '99 has the Dana 70 with limited slip. Just had it rebuilt.

The limited slip was an option. There are many trucks that didn't come with it. There are many, many choices of limited slip units, lockers and selectable lockers in the aftermarket. Whether or not you would want to install it yourself is another matter. You would need a means of measuring gear backlash before and after, and also equipment to remove and install the side bearings, repeatedly if necessary, in order to adjust your shim packs to achieve the proper pattern, preload, and lash.
Check out www.ringpinion.com for some choices, tech tips, etc.

The Powr-lok would be a good option for your if you want a limited slip.

Some factory LSDs were powr-loks, some where Trak-loks (like mine-- basically useless).

You'll need be to be clear on what you want beause differentials come in four basic flavors: open, limited slip, selectable locker, automatic locker.

Open: you know what this is
LSD: differentiation only occurs with enough force to overcome clutch pack friction
Selectable locker: you switch between locker and open (no in-between), like an ARB or OX locker or E-locker
Automatic locker: normally locked, but cornering force will unlock it: think Detroit locker here.

The Powr-lok is probably the best all around daily driver unit you can get, and fortunately for you, they still make it for the D70 (no more for D80 )

For a D80, you have clutchless options like a TrueTrac, and that's probably what I'll have to do.

Bringing this old thread back as the dana 70 found in automatic CTD's is hard to find a LSD for? Has anyone found one? The Detroit true track is available for Dana 80's and 60's and the new AMM but I cant find one for the 70

Looks like there are several options, replace your old diff or just put in a center?
