Can failing VP44 cause shift problems?

Is this a dumb question? For the past week sometimes the truck would not shift (I would have to back off the throttle for it to shift), especially under a little throttle. Today, it died on the freeway and it looks like the VP44. Do I have two problems? Is it possible to have shift problems when the IP isnt pressuring well. I have great fuel pressure and the truck was just at the tranny shop and he couldnt find anything wrong...

Are you talking about giving it throttle and it not responding? If so, yes, that's called "dead pedal." It's a symptom of the VP dying.
