I have a 1998-1/2 D2500 24 valve w/a SunCoast Automatic Transmission & converter and 3:54 gears in the rear-end. It has a Banks system installed with the quick spool turbo from Banks and is stacked with a Smarty Box set on #9. When I am going down the road in lockup, a surge is felt so bad that it will almost put you to sleep, as the boost goes between 2 pounds to 7 pounds continuously. Also, the truck is equipped with a FASS Fuel Pump and an AFE Stage 2 cold air box. Could it be that the injector pump is getting worn out and needs replacing? The truck has 197,000 miles showing on the odometer and is used daily for pulling a flatbed gooseneck trailer of between 10,000 pounds and 18,000 pounds, and also driving on the street when not pulling a load. The surge occurs more noticable when the cruise control is on, but also occurs when the cruise is off. There are no problems with starting or at an idle, only when driving down the road. It will make about 40 pounds of boost when under a load and gets about 23 to 24 miles per gallon with the cruise on and not pulling a load, at least it got this kind of fuel economy when it didn't surge. In the future, planning to replace the Banks system with an Edge w/ Attitude, compounds, 75 HP Dynomites, an aftermarket aluminum intercooler and maybe a Gear Vendors under/ overdrive unit. Does anyone have any suggestions what might be causing the boost surge?
