A/C Pump Removal Question / Oil Filter
A/C repairs is one of the things I do not do on my truck, due to my not having or wanting to have the ac recovery / pressure tool system thingey. I posted this in the Drivetrain section becuase it has to do with the belt / engine. Here's the story...
Truck went in to get the A/C pump R&R'ed due to bearing failure. Truck went in the oil filter was pretty clean, the housing clean, etc. I got the truck back, popped the hood, everything looked fine. I shut the hood, went for about a 1,100 mile trip and got back and just today popped my hood. Oil filter black, covered in oil, the housing was pretty well oil soaked as well as the turbo oil line and the cold side of the turbo, not to mention Active Rustproofing on everything below it.
What I want to know is, Is it likely that this oil leak developed on it's own, or did Mr. Mechanic not get something tight?
Have been working on my semi and will go to work on this little deal as soon as it gets out of the shop, Just wanted to get some thoughts on the issue.

I replaced the a/c pump on my 94 in the garage, no problem. He would have to do something really really wrong to futz the oil system while working on the pump. They aren't near each other. The only way to do that would be by bending the A/C lines way more than necessary, and even then I don't know if it would be possible.
Edit: Any chance he was being nice and topped off your oil, overfilling it?

When was the last time your oil was changed? Maybe the filter wasn't tight enough and it's just a coincidence.
He -may- have removed the oil filter to gain access to the compressor from the top side. Don't know why when they're easy to get to from the bottom, but could explain why it may have come lose.

307, they have been known to come loose on their own. Usually from engine vibrations combined with the filter not being as tight as it was thought to have been. I have two friends who have both had this happen on their CTD's. That's why I use a strap wrench to cinch mine up. Never had a problem that way. Oh, and btw, when I did my A/C work ( yes, i'm licensed ) I never touched the oil filter once.
