brakes getting hot!

I have a 2001 2500 2wd. Coming home from the river Saturday my passenger side rear brake started smoking when I pulled up to a red light. It's like that brake is locking up tighter than the others or they are not catching at all. The pads are not very old and shouldn't bee the problem. I've got a tractor in the shop right now and can't work on it right now. Hopefully I can get it the shop this week. Anybody had this problem or know what might be wrong? Thanks.

Rear drums or discs?

I know dumb ? but was your e-brake completely disengaged. I have to pull mine up about 1 click after letting it off or they will drag a little.

Did you do a lot of backing, your star wheels may have over adjusted.

Could also have a brake cylinder sticking if drums, lube sliders if discs.

I'm curious to know what you find. My truck has done this exact thing twice now. Would like to swap in a disc brake rear but that may create new problems!

Mine has disk brakes. You'rs has drums? If that's the case, it may be something in the booster or lines.

Discs became standard in the rear for model year designation 2001.5.

However, some trucks as early as late model 2000 rec'd them.

I'll bet a bad caliper or a slider that needs some grease.

Mine was smoking too. One of the parking brake cables was scuffed up a little keeping it from releasing it totally.
