Brake hop

I have noticed as of late that the rear of the truck seems to hop when the brakes are applied. This is at about 30 mph coming to a stop. My first thought was my rotors are warpped, but it hop or bounce is coming from the rear of the truck. Almost like the road has bumps in it. ???

Re:Brake hop

have u pulled of the rear wheels and checked the brakes. Could be improper adjustment. Sometimes if you have leak, wheel cylinder or gear oil it will cause aproblem like that.

Re:Brake hop

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the anti-lock brake system. Talked to two other guys at lunch one drives a 1500 the other a 2500 diesel they both say their trucks do this also. Both are Dodges.

Re:Brake hop

Supposedly brake fluid or gear lube on the shoes will cause this, but I have never personally seen it happen.

Chris

Re:Brake hop

bkay, pull your drums, I would venture to guess you have have a bad axle seal. Both mine went bad on the Dana 70, had to pull the axles to change the seals. Got them from a dealer, ones from Napa or Autozone do not hold up to the task. If they are leaking, replace BOTH sides, new shoes, etc. Have drums turned. Hop will disappear.
