No offense, but I still don't understand. My starter works fine. The fuse in the fuse box, right in back of the right battery for the starter relay is blowing..unless no other electric component is on i.e. radio, headlights, phone charger, a/c blower, etc....of course. I guess $34 isn't that bad to try and rule out gremlins. It's just my nature to want to know exactly why things work, and I'm just don't get this.
Actually, there is a TSB out on this very problem.
Dodge used an under-rated fuse from the factory. There is a relay kit available from Dodge to replace the small signal wire going to the starter and upgrades the circuit to 30 amps.
The starter contacts are going out on your truck and that is why you are blowing the fuse.
Sometime they make a poor connection and draw too much current, that blows the fuse. But at other times, you are getting lucky and the truck is starting...You will see when you take the starter apart. I was surprised to see the condition of my starter contacts.
Don't let this go, or you will find yourself stuck at the wrong time.
You will need a 10mm 12pt wrench ( not socket) to reach the upper starter bolt and a 10mm 12pt socket will work for the lower two bolts.
This is about an hours worth of work if you do it now, or it will ruin a whole day when the truck wont start and you don't have the starter rebuild kit and have to buy a starter just to get the truck running.....
All this is from experience.
Look on Ebay and get a starter rebuild kit now for $20 and rebuild it as soon as possible.
Here is a link to the TSB.....

and a link to the Pre-TSB that was performed at some dealers(
) You'll see what I mean.....

Happy reading and I hope you understand more now.....
