Best tires for a 2nd Gen

Hey all,
my tires are about rubbed smooth and I'm having a hard time keeping air in them. I don't want to go back with the same brand I have now because they don't ride worth anything. What's the best tire to go with?
Thanks,
Rat

It really depends on what kinda of driving you do? I run a set 285/75/16's on my 2wd. They aren't aggressive tread so I still get 23mpg on the hwy and 19 in town.

I think by far the most popular tires are 285/75 BFG ATs. I personally do not like the looks of their tread pattern and prefer GoodYear Silent Armors.

If you don't haul anything real heavy, going to a D loadrange tire will help out the ride a bit. I think thats what the BFG A/T's are in a 285/75

the bfg's come in "d" or "e" in the 285's. I have had the "E" range bfg at's for 20k and am just about do for a new set.

I love my Cooper S/T... Have a 285 now, thinking about going back to a 265.

If I had a 2wd I'd be looking at the Toyo A/T. Might still look at em for the next set.

I might be in Shattuck this weekend...

So far i love my new tires in a 285-70-17 these right here http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....87R7SCORATROWL on stock 2nd gen. alum. wheels they would look better I'm going to 305's or back to 315's next time though on my H2's

forgot to mention these have great traction in everything but mud just like any A/T but better then average traction on all other types or road conditions.

if not the ATR's above then I suggest these http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/details...931&Country=US my dad has them and they are outstanding on his '01 2500 if I could have gotten these in a 285or 305 for a 17" rim I would have no hesitation

Well I'll give my 2 cents
Bridgestone Dueler Revo's are probably the best tire I have run on the truck. Two sets got 58k and 61k out of them. They are quiet and have great dry, wet and snow traction. They are good off road as well. Only place they dont shine is in the deep gooey mud. They towed very nice as well.

BerryG what size REVO's did you run??? Just asking becasue I know you have to watch it because all the 285's I have looked at all carry a "P" rating but thats just 285's i dont know about the other sizes

cummins freak:
I ran the 265/75/16 E. I wish they had the 285 in an E but they only offer it in a D range. I tow to much/heavy to run a D.
I am currently running the toyo m55 in a 285 E. I switched because I felt I need a more aggressive mud tire for some property we have that can get pretty muddy. While I like the toyo m55's and they perform pretty good in the mud which is what I was looking for they dont do quite as well as the revo's in everything else. Again they are a good tire and are lasting long I just like the revo's better. The M55's are too loud for me personally too. Truck is loud enough dont need additional tire noise. Now lots of folks like that type of tire noise I am just not one of them. If it were possible to make the truck lexus quiet I would.
I may swirtch back to the revos next time around but now that I have had 285's in an acceptable tire I dont know if I want to downsize. May try the Toyo Open Country MT's next if the price isnt too high. They have 285's and larger in E.

the last 3 sets of tires ive run on my 98 2wd were the 265-70/16 BFG all terrains. they last me around 45-50,000 miles. I haul heavy loads and dont have any problems with them. i think they are load range D and ive never had a flat yet, even in the cedar stump flats at the ranch pulling a trailer

oops

some of the guys at work have the rugged terran ATs. they slide really well in snow, or is that the open countrys. i dont remember much just that the power pole was really close to the truck when i didnt make that turn. if u see alot of snow id take a close look at the tire hardness. the softer all seasons seem to do better in the winter.

my truck came with kumho road ventures at, they are a pretty hardy tire. quiet on the road, respectical off road performance (for a hiway friendly tire), and seem to hold up well of the long haul.

the wifes truck came with nokians, not sure which one but, one of the guys at work has then and is really happy with them compared to the stock ford and dodge tires.
