Belts, Hoses, and other wear items. When to replace? Spare parts to carry?

Belts, Hoses, and other wear items. When to replace? Spare parts to carry?

I just replaced my serpentine belt and now carry the old one in the toolbox. I'm thinking of doing the radiator hoses next and carrying the old ones as spares as well. The truck is a 2001 w/ 85k miles on it. It has a full complement of guages.

What other parts are good to replace so they don't strand you on the side of the road? What spare parts do you carry?

If you have a stock LP set up, carry one of those.

If you don't have a fuel pressure guage you better carry a spare VP-44.

And all the goofy little wrenches to replace it with and some sealing washers cause you will inevitably drop one during the changeout.

I also carry one of these in the tool box:

And one of these with full blown impact set and all.

That Wheel Step (first item) is Cooooool! Had not seen one before. Looks a little high... if your over 6'? Did not notice... probably adjustable? I use an old metal mike box to carry "stuff" in the bed. Just empty it and flip it over to stand on, when needed.

CRSmith, I would not worry about radiator hose. Have not seen/heard of a problem under 200,000 miles. JMO.
I would change all fluids so you know it WAS done... and when. (Incl. radiator, brake fluid, Power Steering) Other than the lift pump, mentioned above, and your spare serpentine.... I think your set.
I carry a rubber backed bath mat as well as tools. Folds up nicely under the back seat and make a great fender cover.
