Common spare parts to carry
Common spare parts to carry
I know there has been other threads on this but there is nothing in the sticky yet. I will be making a 2,500 mile round trip in the next month or so and would like a few spare ideas. I'm going to keep an ongoing list in the first post.
The one thing I always carry is a spare fuel filter. Also some common fluids to top off anything on the truck.
List:
Fuel filter
Fluids
Spare Tire(should go without saying)
Wiring and connectors
voltage regulator
Non A/C Belt
good alternator
water pump
factory service manual
upper and lower radiator hoses
a piece of steel strapping
Spare windsheild wiper bushings
There are others in the thread but they seem a little overkill to me.

I carry an extra voltage regulator, which you don't have to worry about since yours is a 93.
I carry an EXTRA NON A/C BELT. this is a must IMO, if the compressor ever seizes up and shreds your belt. or your belt shreds for other reasons. You'll have an extra
I carry an extra used good alternator, also a gallon of coolant, and a quart of each kinda oil (to cover the getrag, np205 and the diff's and the engine)
That's why i bought a big in bed tool chest- so i had a locked place to put a bunch of extra stuff.
Don't forget to bring some electrical connectors, crimpers, cutters, wire, and fuses and the necessary items to bypass a fusible link. Had to replace a fusible link on the side of the road one time. It now uses a normal stab fuse in a nice little box.

My rule is that if I only had the part, it would be a quick, easy repair, I make sure I have that part. So I have:
starter
water pump and antifreeze
lift pump
voltage regulator
alternator
couple of belts
original clutch and pressure plate
clutch master and slave
factory service manual
upper and lower radiator hoses
and probably some that I don't remember.
Looking at the list, it's pretty hard to believe I have all that in my truck. I just like to be self sufficient, especially in Mexico...Mark

Sounds like overkill, and that sounds like understatement.
What I did was that when I replaced my original with around 200k miles, it was in such good shape that I sealed it up in plastic bags and put it under my fuel tank. I intend to take it down to AZ brake and clutch and have it re-manufactured. It really wouldn't help in a down the road failure, but it might get me home from Mexico one day...Mark

For tools, I have about everything. The top 8 inches of my aux. fuel tank is a tool box that has all my tools, spare parts, except the clutch, even a hi-lift jack. It is very useful. Oh yeah! It also has 91 gallons of diesel fuel...Mark

Get ya a big a$$ trailor and just drag along another truck. By the time you go 2500 miles, you'll probably have used up most of it. You can carry every tool you own and most of a parts store with you, but something will go wrong that you won't be prepared for, and yes...something will go wrong. These trucks can make claim to alot of things, but reliability ain't one of them (look at this thread)!
