Always remove the negative cable first on both batteries. If you don't you run the risk of shorting the connection with your wrench. When installing new battery always install positive connection first. Use a battery terminal cleaner and a battery sealer to stop battery terminal corrosion. 750 CCA battery for diesels works best.

Never used them. Think the Optimas don't fit quite right.

Group 34/78 Optimas fit OK and you might be able to make a Group 65 fit (these are used in the third gens I believe).

You can make all sizes of batteries fit if you cut out one side of your battery tray.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
You may charge both batteries together but better to charge before installing.

You do not need to charge new batteries .
If for some reason you need to charge any battery bank [ no matter what size , a battery bank is just a group of cells , 12v auto , are 6 cells , 6v is 3 cells , a room of batteries for a solar system / what ever ] is a bank , any battery bank should be charged just as there used , connected together , if they are charged separately they can be unequal , charging together will equalize them .
Again if for some reason you need to charge the batteries in the truck , just hook the charger up to one battery & charge [ assuming all connections are good ] , just keep the charging current under 150 amps , the alt. has the ability to put out at least 120 amps , so you not going to do anything to the system that does not happen during normal driving .
