Baptism in oil

Saturday afternoon, I changed the oil for the first time since I picked the truck up in January. Just one question..... who's bright idea was to combine the drain plug with a shower head?

I used the bag under the oil filter trick as well, but that didn't work out to good either. I used a plastic shopping bag and the thin plastic snagged on a hose clamp and poked a hole in the bag which, of course, leaked oil all over the place. Next time I think I use a gallon ziploc bag.... heavier construction.

Changed the fuel filter as well.... picked up 2 psi across the board.

I find if i let it sit for half hour or so after shutting it down I dont have a problem with the filter making a big mess. Just leave the filter till last and use a good bag.

I don't know what yall are talking about. I use a 5 gallong bucket to change my oil with. Can barely fit a wrench in between it and the oil pan. I don't spill any oil there. I also can unscrew the oil filter by hand without a plastic bag and not drip a single drop of oil.

Mechanos, if you let it sit for a while like Scubasteve says, you can remove the filter without the bag trick (which I've used too). I let mine drain overnight and finish it the next morning. It works best when you drain it hot. I also recommend the EZ-Drain from Geno's Garage. You can begin to dump the oil in under 30 seconds and not get a drop on your hands. Just unscrew the cap, slide the bucket under. Thread the hose on, and the oil will begin to flow. My drain hose is stored in a freezer bag in the door pocket and is replaced at each change. The used filter goes in the old bag for disposal.

Commatoze, do you let your drain plug open all night long?

Aren't you afraid of the oil pump bleeding out and becoming air locked?

Don't know if it's possible, but figured I'd ask.
