Ball joints
Any front end guys know how much play I should have in the ball joints and steering equipment? The front end guy here showed me a silver ring under the lower ball joints on both sides of my truck and then showed me how loose everything is, tie rod ends, ball joints, etc. He gladly wrote me a repair estimate for 1700 US and asked me when I wanted to bring it in. My steering is a little wandery so I had it checked out. Any tips?

I need a track bar, upper and lower ball joints-both sides, and all the tie-rod ends done, new steering stabilizer and alignment. Does this price $1700 seem high?

No, it was at Les Schwab, a pretty reputable tire center in my town. By the way, they told me that replacing only one or two parts would just wear out the new parts faster and not cure the wandering.
