Axle Question

I have and 02 Ram 2500 Quad Cab short bed and need to confirm that it has a Dana 60 up front and a Dana 70 in back. Is this true? If so, what trucks have the Dana 80 and what is the difference between that and the Dana 70?

Re:Axle Question

It helps us all if you fill in your sig line with info about your truck.
If you have an auto trans, then your rear is a Dana 70 hybrid.
If you have a std trans, then you have an 80.

Welcome to the site!

Re:Axle Question

I believe only the 2x4 autos have the 70 in the rear. If yours is a 4x4 then I would say it has a 80.
DM01

Re:Axle Question

Ok, I'm going to have to go search for data, but for now I will disagree with the above posts.

a 2500 auto has the dana 70
a 2500 manual has the hybrid dana 70/80
a 3500 has the only true dana 80

Re:Axle Question

I am attaching the factory sticker picture of a 2500 5spd...if ya look down to rear axle, it shows a "hybrid 80". This is the same center as a true 80, but with smaller axles from the 70.

(I hope this works)

I've got a 2002 2500 with the 5spd, and my sticker just says Dana 80

Disagree. Well you just said the same thing I did in the first few lines. but I did forget to put the 2500 in there. so you got me there.

Re:Axle Question

Open your glove box and there should be a assembly line code list. You should clearly be able to tell what you have by that.

Re:Axle Question

What makes the axle a "hybrid"?? My sticker says I have a Spicer 70 rear end.

Re:Axle Question

Fishcop, the hybrid means just as stated above:

True Dana 80 center (ring and pinion) and Dana 70 axle tubes and 1.5 inch axles.
