auto tranny not shifting properly

The tranny will sit there for a while before going into o/d. If i let off and get back into it, it will usually go ahead and shift. any ideas? it does not do this all the time.

Is it time for a tranny service? The material in pan will tell a story. If maganet looks like a chocolate Dunkin donut, the game is over and time for overhaul. If virtually nothing in pan, then go for speed sensor on side of OD unit. It should have around 600 ohms resistance and make ohm meter jump if you pass a screwdriver past tip. Next would be governor pres tranducer and the governor solenoid. Replace both as difficult to figure which.
I assume it shifts O'K into second, third and lockup???????? Just OD issue.

Mine was shifting late into second and then not at all. It was the speed sensor ($16.99 at autozone). Hope that's it!

Left side on OD housing with two wire connector. Approx 600 (400-900 ohm) and make ohmeter needle jump when pass screwdriver blade past tip.
