APPS install

I recnetly ended up getting a APPS from a local wrecker......picked it up for $25 so i hope it works. I got the whole assembly that is held on by the 3 bolts to the left of the plastic cover.........

My quesiton is can i just plug the new one in, or do i have to do a APPS reset as well?.....the method with using a voltmeter to compare actual to recommended voltages.

Also i don't know what year this APPS was out of but i know it was a standard.......as is mine.......i hope this will work?

Thanks

Undo the APPS, by removing the six bolts, which attach it to the bracket, then replace the old with the new. The only reset you'll need to do is after you hook up the batteries, turn the key to the on position and slowly depress and release the pedal. You shouldn't have to address the voltage, unless the new unit has issues.

When I replaced mine I had to adjust teh new one to match the voltage on teh old. The old one should have a sticker on teh back of teh APPS that sais volts at idle I think. I want to say mine was around 5.75V. You can adjust the new one by loosening the there bolts that hold the APPS on and rotate it until you get the same voltage. I think the APPS reset is supposed to prevent this, but I had to do it.

OK

Went to install the new APPS today and ran into some trouble. I took off the plastic cover and removed the 6 10mm bolts that held the APPS in place. But now i see that there are two more torx screws that hold the APPS bracket on. In order to get to these torx screws i have to remove the APPS sensor (also held on by two torx screws)......which is gonna throw out my voltage......So do i have to remove the APPS sensor then just setup the voltage? Or is there a way to install it without removing the APPS sensor?

thanks

Jeff

It's raining too hard to go look at for you, but the APPS assembly on my '99 came off in one piece.

Yes. I don't remember the details, but I think it's held on by some kind of snap ring or pressure ring.

Just look closely at where the linkage connects to the assembly. If I could figure out how to get it off and on, anybody can.

Silverjay, did you try running yours before resetting the voltage? I just changed my apps but did not reset the voltage on the new one. I still have a surge I was trying to get rid of, either the apps was not the problem or maybe resetting the voltage will help. Thanks, Gene

I was replacing my APPS (compliments of the dealer) because the torque convertor was locking and unlocking. I ran it after replacing but before adjusting the voltage and had the same problem. When I adjusted the voltage, it quit doing it for 3 months or so. I later cleaned all my grounds and that seems to have fixed teh TC issue.
