APPS or injector pump?

I have had this ongoing problem for 6 years on my 2001 dodge diesel 5 speed and I need your help.
The fuel pedal dissapears and you go nowhere, then take it out of gear and idle for 10 seconds and then you have power again or shut it off and restart it and it will make power again.
Just when I think I've figured out the pattern of this problem it falls on it's face again and you have the feul pedal that doesn't seem to be connected to anything. every mechanic tells me to thow a $2000 pump at it but I have a hard time believing it's a pump when it runs flawless some days?
tell me what you think. THANKS GUYS

more than likely its a pump, as 99.99% of the time an APPS sets a code (some have reported a bad apps and no codes)

before changing vp, check all connections on all sensors and vp 44, maybe you'll get lucky
