Anybody have problems with their cylinder head?

I just got done taking my cylinder head apart, very discourgaging. Excessive guide/stem wear at 84k miles. #4 cylinder was the only one that didn't leak. #3 had a bad leak on an intake valve, probably where the barking noise was coming from and every cylinder except #4 had leaky exhaust valves to various degrees, #1 being the worst. Varnish deposits on many exhaust valves.

The exhaust valves had no deposits on them at all, intakes on the other had where a mess. Deposits all over the back of the valve and part way up the stem.

I'm going to rebuilt it my self. Anybody have a copy of the specs for the rebuild? And where is the best place/supplier to get parts from, i.e. valves, guides, etc.

Thanks,
Mike

As much as I hate to say it:

"I'm glad it's you and not me", I'm getting to old for that kind of crap.

Good luck.

The 24v heads are not the best for durability..... We do a lot of heads and i would say that about 30% are not even rebuildable! The guides wear very rapidly and guys over oiling their air filters doesn't help. Cracks and valve seats are a major problem as well.....

Normally when we have a head rebuilt we plan on all new guides, a valve job, maybe new seats, surfaced, new valve seals, plus all heads are pressure checked to ensure integrity.

I took it to the machine shop today. They're going to check it for cracks and I'm going to have them put all new guides in. We'll see what happens.
