Another one bites the dust
Well, looks like I get to be the in the VP-44 club. Truck took a dump on me on my way to my parents for t-giving. I made it all the way but the root cause was a failed FASS pump. I guess it stopped working and then no fuel = no VP-44. But the FASS was only 6 months old so warranty. But no luck with the VP-44. 107xxx miles. But I guess I'll have them flush the coolant and power steering fluid well it's in there. I'll let you guys and gals know what the bill is when I get it. That way you can tell me if I'm getting the high hard one or not.

Just so you know, your pump (if it has not been tampered with) is still under the factory warranty. The Cummins diesel engine is warranted for a period of 5 years or 100k and goes into effect AFTER the Dodge basic 3/36. It in you factory warranty book. The dealer will fight you on this. I got the 800 number for DC and called after I paid for my replacement and got a check back -100 for the deductible.
Wurkenman, do you know if that warranty covers water pump and t-stat, dealer told me the 5 years was passed so I pay. Maybe worth looking into if the 3/36 applies and warranty covers those items.
That sucks dude, sorry to hear it. Did you have the little filter installed before the FASS? Just curious as I have one of their HPFP 95 units and was about to install it. These posts always make me second guess my decision but I suppose it's better than the OEM pump as long as you have some way to monitor fuel pressure.
Thanks, Mike.
Thanks, Mike.
Look in your warranty book or search this site. The book states and is very specific on what is covered and what is not, but I know for a fact that the VP, lift pump etc are covered. I know it sucks, but I had to pay the bill and then do the footwork to get my refund. Still the bill was 2300 installed at the dealer.

Moose, the pump was only 6 months old and is getting the warranty.
Yeah I have an FP gauge, everything was working fine, just one of those things i guess. Not to worried about it. I figured the vp44 was on the rocks for the last 25000 miles. I was just hoping that it would make it past 100K because I tapped the wire at 50k.

If this is a HPFP......you WILL have fuel pressure issues with a filter that tight. You need to use a NAPA 3270 144um micron STRAINER. 5um is WAY too tight to be on the suction side of any pump. This needs to be on the pressure side. Just letting you know.....to keep all this from happening again......
