Another Noobie Question about engine warm up

I read in the owners manual about warmup time versus full load operation, but what is a good rule of thumb. I have been cranking my CTD this week (40F outside temp) backing down the driveway to keep from waking up the baby and then slowly easing out of the driveway and down the road at less than 40 mph. Is this OK or should I sit in the driveway for a while and let the engine warmup? Want to keep the truck a long time.

Thanks

Your not supposed to idle for a long time with these engines. At 40°, I think your fine doing what you do. I normally plug in every night, but if I don't, I only idle for maybe a minute or so revving the RPM's up at about 1200 and then just take off. Just keep it easy for the first couple miles until the engine temp get's up. You'll be fine!

Welcome to the site! ;D

Tony

Well guys, what about this. It seems to me the engine is a little noisier when cold and not as powerful. It also seems to take several miles before I see any change in the temp gauge. Is this normal for the CTD?

I let the oil pressure come all the way up and idle down the driveway. When the temp needle starts climbing I drive it like I stole it! ;D ;D Don't be too heavy on the go pedal until the temp starts to come up though.

My truck does this on its own anyway. I plug mine in, should I let it warm up for a min. or two or just wait till the oil pressure come up (that is what I do now).
