Alternative to VP44?

I was reading that the VP44 is a part # to a Bosch injection pump. I was also told that the BMWhad the SAME pump for the 320 D. Is this true? Can I use the same pump for both rides? I ask only because my roommate works the BMW parts counter, and he gets me BANGING deals on parts. I can save myself a few hundo, and just give him some beer instead.

The older 320D used a VP44 but it was quite a bit different from the VP44 model in our trucks. (4 cyl BMW) The one from the 325 over here would have the correct no. of cylinders but the plunger is much too small (More than double the displacement per cyl. in the Cummins than the BMW)

But you could ask him whether he can access it via part number from Bosch - then just read him the number from you VP44 and he can tell you a price.
