Adjusting bands in the tranny.

Just turned 90,000 and according to the maula I am overdue for a adjustment. I see in the tech area the instructions for doing this but have not yet made the attempt. Do you guys do this yourself or take it to the shop?? Is it really all that difficult? DO you actually have to pull the tranny?

Not difficult to do. You have to drop the pan(not the tranny) for one of the adjustments. A "inch-lb" torque wrench is a must.

Dang that in lb torque wrench. I run into that frickin tool on a regular basis and have yet to buy one. I should just go get one and be done with it. I have tried on numerus occasions to find someone that knows a in - ft lb conversion but to no avail. DOnt get me wrong I love new tool smell as much as the next guy but these dang things aint cheap. Oh well what the ol' lady dont know cant hurt me.

Converting in-lb to ft-lbs is easy. Works just like measuring distance. 12 in-lbs in 1 ft-lb.

I don't reccomend using a ft-lbs wrench to do in-lb work. Way better sensitivity and accuracy with a in-lb wrench for stuf like this.

into the search bar.

All the tranny gurus I know say not to adjust the bands unless you have slippage in 1st or R.
You are likely to do more harm than good.
Mileage is a poor guide for this type of service, it depends on your driving habits.
If you back up then go instantly up to highway speeds in 100k you might not be in 1st or R for more than a few miles. City driving is a different story.
