Adjusting Bands

How do yall adjust the bands on the tranny. i hear different opinions on here saying that you should do it, and some say that if you have to adjust them, that its a sign of much wear, and there is no point in doing it. should you, how do yall do it, and how often should you do it? thanks

The best directions I've seen are here:
(they're the same ones I use)

Tranmission Bands Adjustment Procedures

NOTE: the torque specs are in INCH Pounds NOT Foot Pounds.

The front band will test your patience! It sits high on the driver side of the trans and is very difficult to put a TQ Wrench on. I used a tire crayon to make a mark so I could count the turns after I got the torque done. I did mine a few years ago just after my first trans service. The trans was acting up and I read at the time that band adjustment was a part of standard service. If I'm not mistaken I think it might have even said this in the operator's manual.

Good luck

here's what I used to adjust front and rear bands.

this when an advanced set of snap-on tools comes in pretty handy.

1. torque wrench for inch lbs
2. square sockets (97 ctd)
3. torqx set
4. 1/4in drive T wrench for close quarter turning
5. 3/4in snap-on stubby wrench

this is the pile of tools used for this job
