Adjusted valves MPG increase.
Adjusted valves MPG increase.
Just thought I'd post this up here since we all want better MPG.
Was only getting 9.5 towing 11.5 city\county driving and getting pretty sick of it. With 195k(184k when I got it) on it. This was my first time adjusting the valves on a diesel engine and it is super easy. Every set except #1 intake was .07-.018 out of spec. Truck runs so much smoother, better power, less smoke and best of all better MPG, 13.5MPG hauling *** down the freeway(65-80mph 75mph\avg.), I don't know towing mpg yet but I'm sure it'll be better. Hope this helps anyone who is looking for some better MPG.

Smokin98.5- I am planning on adjusting the valves on mine at about 120,000 miles...almost there. What special tools did you need and where did you find the instructions on how to do it? Thanks in advance!
I wish I was as fine, as those who work the pipeline!

Gears
Thats about what I got out of my '01.5. I had 4.10 gears, leveling kit, and 33's...highway mileage at about 70-75 was 16.5 hand calculated on a long trip. I'd usually be 14-15 around town. Now I have a '04.5 reg cab and it does a little better. Everyone always says they get better mileage than me...I don't think I could coast either one of my two cummins I've had down a hill in neutral and see 20+ mpg for a tank but thats just my experience.
boy i better do mine 214k and i never did them. anyone in northeast ohio want to help me? par12730@sbcglobal.net

I can get 21-23 going 60-65 doin 75-80 I get 16. I also have 4:10 gears that are coming out soon.
