Add me to the list of Dead VP's
Same old story, Well my truck made it 54531 miles before the VP went south, i've been suspecting it for awhile.
My HO has been an absolute turd since i bought it. I really wish it had my old P pump- No worries never think twice about firing up the truck and driving long distances, this VP44 is ticking me off, my friend is having the same problem at the same number of miles 58000 on his and he lost the VP.
Yes i know i need a Fuel pressure gauge but i havent been home long enough aside from sleeping in my own bed to do anything, shoot i didnt even sleep there for the last three weeks. LOL so stopping the truck to install a gauge probably aint happening at least until late august or september which will be my chance at free time.
Really what do you guys think is it even worth investing 600 in the Fass and then tapping the wire on the VP with a 600 edge only to loose your warranty coverage and then have the pump die again 40k-70k miles later and have to spend another 1500 for a new injector pump. At this rate would i be better off looking around for the parts and just preparing myself to change over to a p-pump at 100k miles. shoot you can get a used P-pump for 300-400 on ebay recondition it for 600-800 and you have a new pump. granted you have to get fuel lines, cam, injectors, timing cover and gears but the agony of fighting a VP over the simplicity and reliability of my p is starting raise my eyebrows. Maybe im just irritated at the timing of this. since i'm going to trade my friend for his 190k mile chevy for the next three weeks (since i wont be back to trade back for that long)
I always kept hearing you guys complain about the lift pumps and VP's, can they be made to live longer than 70k miles reliably?
Is there really that much benefit to keeping the truck electronic over switching it to mechanical
My friend is the service manager at a dodge dealer so getting it fixed under warranty isnt a problem nor an argument right now

couple things - make SURE you have the updated bracket on the back bottom of the pump.....it is thick metal where as the old style is flat welded crapp and I guarntee it is broke if it there.
2- the newer pumps are much better then the older ones.
3 I would keep my elec. over the dumb pump even if it lasted 50,000 miles( t.m.o.)
3- as you know a guage is a pump savor.

It's my understanding, 02's have better (best) version of Fuel Pump. I don't know anyone I can recall, that has had problem if you do three things:
1- Gauge to report on health of Lift pump
2- Use a diesel fuel conditioner that has a lubricity additive in it to keep LP & FP pumps running smoothly.
3- Keep tank more than 1/2 full whenever possible.
After running my 02 for 20,000 miles with just an EZ and a gauge, and reading all I could find on the subject, I felt confident enough to add a PM3 and pierce the wire.
