99 Ram2500 TPS ?
99 Ram2500 TPS ?
My truck has hunted a few times between loc and unlocking of the converter, I have been driving it pretty easy and thought it was because I was lugging in od going up a hill, the truck then did it again on the way home but only at a low rpm, I have tried searching but only found info on how to clean the tps on 12 valves, I currently have my batteries disconnected and will clean the terminals in the morning, it looks like th etps is connected to the unit that also has the throttle cables attached to it, if so can this be removed without any problems and the tps cleaned? or am I asking for trouble, also I noticed the throttle cable was pretty loose, any help would be appreciated, thanks
I had the same issues, starting with clean battery terminals is a good start. Also, clean all connections. Run a new (additional) ground wire from the PCM to a neg. battery terminal. That's all that I've done and so far so good.
Hi 1qkdodge,
Although I am new to this site, I've been given a lot of help here. My CTD is lso a 1999, and I first tried a new TPS which I bought on e-Bay from a 2002. That cleaned it up for about 300 miles, then back to it's old tricks.
One of the posted replies suggested SUNCOAST in Fla for a APPS cable modification, and I have it on order and awaiting it's arrival. I am told the Dodge folks included the Alternator wires into the loom with the signal to the ECM, and it's picking up noise and relaying noisy voltage spikes to the ECM and causes the unit to "hunt up and down" because it gets noisy signals.
I also cleaned up the battery terminals (both pos & neg) and the Alternator positive lead. I also cleaned the pos cable at the Starter. This worked for a whle, but its starting all over.
Call SUNCOAST (you can get the number if you google suncoast) and speak to John.
Good luck

Thanks guys, I cleane dthe cables and will call Suncoast and run a new ground from the PCM, I hate being a newbie and my owners manual has not arrived yet, is the PCM the unit that is on the firewall behind the passenger side battery? thanks and you guys are the best.
Thanks Mike, I just ordered the kit form Suncoast, and ran a new ground cable from th epcm to the negative terminal, I will clean all of the plugs this weekend, thanks again, and when the harness comes I will also clean the inside of the tps.
