Is 99 a good year

I found a 99 quad cab shortbed auto, 2wd, cummins, 106000 miles, all stock for 11900. Is this a good price and good year? The trans shifts good, but when you first put it in gear in kinda feels like a bump.

It has a the older style vp44. They have made revisions but may want to look that up a little more. Trannies work great as long as you service it.

Yeah I like mine =D They all kinda do that with the bump when u put it in gear. If it has all the options you like on it, its a pretty good price so yeah. I'd try and get the fuel pressure checked before u buy it to make sure the fuel Lift Pump *150$* isnt dead or dying, which could kill the VP44 (injection pump *1400 or so $$$*) Also you might want to check and make sure its not a 53 block, or if it has cracked. Do a search on 53 block and it'll tell you where to look on the truck if it is. Even if it is a 53 block, if it has good fuel press. and all the right options then yeah I'd say go for it. Good luck!

Look for the 53 block for sure, check the fuel pressure should be around 13-15 steady. If not could be trouble like was mentioned. Other than that you should be good to go.

I love mine. 185K miles and you could not buy it for less than a new one.

As was mentioned already, check the fuel pressure, look for the "53" block (stamping on the drivers or passenger side of the block in 1" numbers, towards the front, just above the oil pan)

'99 is the first year of the electronic injection pumps (VP44). My factory VP44 lasted 159K and Geico's is a testament to the same. The 47Re is a decent transmission, but if you are towing anymore than 6K it is important to drive it properly. Don't use OD and service the filter and fluid every 25K at a minimum. I went the same 159K on the stock transmission and it was working just fine when I swapped it for the one I have now. I'm just shy of 200K now and am considering getting a new one here in '07, but I am certainly not going to get rid of the '99. Overall it has been a very good truck and I can comfortably say I would buy one again.

Nope, 1998.5 was the introduction of the electronic VP-44. First half of the 98 production run were 12V's with the P-7100 and 98.5 and on had the VP-44.

I love my '99.

I bought it new on Aug 21, 1999 and have nerver regretted it. I'm pushing 180k miles and have never had a major problems, only sensors and such and a couple of lift pumps. I installed a FASS II after the second pump went bad.
And.....I have the 53 block.

No way I'd sell it for $11,900.

in response to older style vp...ssooo what ! buying any car, truck, van, is taking a gamble...some fail for no apparent reason, some get treated like sh_t and far outlast others. Mine is still going strong and so is my 53 block. From what i have read many are using these trucks as if they are a class 6....a ram is far from a class 6 yet many of u expect these trucks to hold up to years of towing 15-30k lbs it aint gona happen without spending the money on heavy upgrades that u would have on a class 5-6 truck.

I'm completly happy with mine. No real issues. A few items, but a lot of what I do to my truck is because of the type of person I am. I tend to notice every little thing and fix or track down the issue. Even at that the worst thing I can think of is pilot bearing (as for design issues).

my brother has a 99; it has been a very good truck. only replaced crankshaft position sensor & 1 lift pump; he has pulled with it quite a bit. It has never had a box or been abused.
