I have a 99 CTD 3500 with 134,000 miles, it has a nice shifting 5-spd but would like to swap ina 6-spd. I can get a good deal on a 6 -spd and would like to know all parts i will need for the swap. I know i will need flywheel, clutch and preasure plate. IS there anything else you guys know that i will need? Thanks

 

I know you will also need the trans cross member for the 6spd. Also have to shorten rear drive shaft and lengthen front shaft. Can't remember exactly how much. A friend of mine and I did that swap on his 95. At first we fabricated an adapter and used his original cross member but he did recently buy the correct one. If memory serves, the only other thing we had to do was cut the hole in the floor, the 5spd floor has like a notch of steel sticking into the corner and we had to cut that out square. And if you're doing this in your garage on your back, get a tranny jack..the 6spd is quite a bit larger and HEAVIER than the 5spd. Good Luck.

 

if you're 4x4 you'll need to lenghten the rod from the 4x4 shifter to the xfer case, & I think some of the 99' trucks had the wide crossmember needed for the 6 spd., you shouldn't have to do any mods to the floorpan since you already have the new style shifters/console, just swap 'em out & enjoy, let me know if you need a flywheel, I have a factory 02' flywheel from my swap, shoot me a pm if you're interested, Dusty

 

My truck is 2 wheel drive not 4x4, i bought a truck that should have everything i need. Hope i can get it done without much problem.
