99' 2500: 4Lo grinds in all gears.

My new 99 2500 engages in 4Hi but when shifting into 4lo it some what engaes but when I tried to put it in drive it grinded bad, so I tried all the other gears and it grinded in all of them even park. What could cause this? Low fluid? Does it need to be rebuilt?

Sounds like it is not getting into 4lo all the way. The linkage might need adjusting on the transfer case shifter or you need to make sure you are at a dead stop and try to put it into 4lo. Other than that, I have no other ideas.

this is a common problem on these trucks, they all do it. linkage needs adjusted and make sure it isnt bent.

How do I adjust the linkage? Do I adjust it under the shifter boot or do I adjust it under the truck above the t-case.

Mine grinds as well, I have not had it looked at, adjusted..so if I want to use 4Lo, I sit there and let my truck cool down if need be, shut the truck off, and then put it in 4Lo, then start her back up. I know this isn't the best idea, but i figure it's a little easier on things instead of grinding, grinding, and grinding some more.

You need to get to the T-Case from underside. It is pretty simple.
