'98.5 E-brake/ECM
'98.5 E-brake/ECM
I received the Jacobs E-brake kit today, and according to the instructions provided, it states that all '98.5 trucks may need an ECM Service Calibration performed by an authorized Cummins distrubutor to enable E-brake function.

Will I be able to take it into a Cummins shop, or is this actually a DC part, requiring a visit to a dealer?

Thanks!
Re:'98.5 E-brake/ECM
I would call Cummins and see if they will do it...but, not all 98.5s need it. I have plugged in a few Jacobs brakes that work fine without the reprogram of pin #20.

You might try plugging it in first to see if you really need to take your truck somewhere!
Re:'98.5 E-brake/ECM
I finally got around to installing the e-brake last friday, and no work. After double checking everything, I brought it into the Cummins shop last night and yup, it needed the ECM calibration service for pin #20.

It works fine now! Like everyone says, these things should come as standard equipment. I'm using the NAPA axle shift switch to control the brake that's mounted on the transmission shift lever, so I don't have to fumble for the dash switch that's supplied with the kit. Thanks Cattlehauler for the info on this switch!

And, ouch......$244 for the ECM service calibration.
