Holy cow!

This is going to shake things up. The wording in the warranty info seems quite clear about when it starts.

So, to be clear when it comes to warranty pertaining to the engine, the Cummins 5 year/100k warranty starts AFTER the 3 year/36k DC bumper to bumper warranty expires.

So, what this means is: The engine actually has warranty coverage for a total of 8 YEARS/136k as stated in the warranty info in the owners manual package published by DC.

Most dealers have NOT honoured engine warranties after 5 years/100k.

Interesting to say the least.

 

Thats totally screwed up,I'm pretty bummed that I replaced my first VP on my own dime.

If you'd read the entire TDR thread (in particular, the first post, with its linked images), you would've seen that it already has been honored. In fact, that was the whole point of the original TDR post.

 

It would be great news to hear that My 02 is covered. I'm not near my truck now, but i know first thing i'll do tomorrow is read my warranty book. Any 02's on here have their book handy??

And according to the third post in this thread on another forum, DC is saying the same thing in 2006. That might make it pretty difficult for them (DC) to claim it was some kind of "typo" or "isolated mistake" (as if that would make any difference).

 

The Cummins engine warranty may start after the 3/36, but note that it states that the cummins warranty is in force for 5 years or 100,000 miles on the odometer, whichever comes first. Key word here is "odometer." I'm sorry to say (at least for 2006) that this simply isn't true.

Regarding the fellow who got his inj. pump replacement reimbursed, I think that's great. If nothing else, it gives us room to try the same thing since we know that it has happened before (DC coverage).

 

I just went out to get my warranty booklet. I have an '06 2500, and on page 8 it says:

I'm looking at the wording in line C.. It says "Cummins Diesel Engine Warranty" instead of "Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty" in line A.. I'm not sure whether that has anything to do with it, but either way, the warranty coverage for the engine clearly starts after the 3/36 warranty.

I guess that you'll need to keep good records of your maintenance to take advantage of it though, since it seems that DC will try to wiggle their way out of it.

This really didn't originally have anything to do with the 3rd gen stuff......the focus of the anomalies in the owners manuals was on the 99 - 02 models.

BUT, there is clearly an issue with the 06 manual too......so, what is the difference between the "Cummins Diesel Engine Warranty" and the "Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty"???????

 

In 2001 (and several other years, I believe), there is no "on the odometer" language when describing the Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty:
2.6 Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty
B. Parts Covered for 5 Years or 100,000 Miles
In trucks equipped with a Cummins Diesel Engine, ONLY the following engine parts and components are covered for 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first

DC has listed a time and mileage duration, one that begins (not "continues") at the end of the 3/36 "Basic Limited Warranty".

 

Does this "on the odometer" language mean that the basic 3/36 warranty stopped at 36,000 miles exactly? What if, when you took delivery, the odometer already had 150 miles displayed? Would you then presume a 29,850 mile warranty, or would you fight DC for warranty coverage if your steering wheel fell off at 36,100 miles "on the odometer"? I'd hope the latter.

EDIT: looks like this was answered above, with the "the date you've put more than 36,000 miles on the odometer" language.

 

It's going to take more than one guy's experience for me to believe this to be true. For all we know that dealership could be getting a denial on the bill for that work as we speak (errr, write!)

Thousands of us have had warranty work done within the 100K miles, lets see how many roll in there with over 100K/5 yrs and get anything done.
Don't take my thoughts as combative, I was always threated well by my 2001.5 and the warranty. I just highly doubt this is going to go well for people that take their 134K mile trucks in for VP replacements.
