I was going to change my gear oil in my 6 speed trans.
Now I see in my owners manual it says the oil is good
for the life of the tranny.I don't believe that, but I bought
the truck used with 42,000 miles and it now has 52,000
miles. I don't drive it hard and only tow 6500# about
once a month. Do I need to change the oil yet or should I
wait. Not having any troubles yet ,was just going to do
preventative maintenance.

 

What oil are you using?

I run redline MTL in my 6 spd because I was getting notchy shifts and it cleared that up for me. It also helps my 6 spd shifting in weather below 20*F.

If you bought "stock" fluid, then go ahead and change it.

If you run something else, like MTL, then DC can void your transmission warranty.

Pensoil Synchromesh is approved for the 6 speed, picked it up at local autozone, no problems. I also installed the Genos Garge transmission filter while I had it apart.

 

I haven't bought any oil yet, was going to
use the Pennzoil that is to the factory specs.

 

How much for the Pennzoil per quart at Autozone ?

I put the pennzoil syncros#it in ,cost me $80.00 cdn then dummped it out after 500 km shifts were more nochy and hard, went with mtl ,much better now.
