Everyone has heard of the possible problems from the 53 block. I have checked mine and found that it is a 56. I have done a search for any past comments or thread in reference to the 56 block and there is none. Does anyone else have the 56 and is there any known problems with it. My truck is a 99 2500 .

 

no, aside from the "mexican" block the 56 is supposed to be the toughest. 53 blocks were the only ones that had notable problems with the castings, the rest are just fine so you have nothing to worry about.

There is a website that gets referanced A LOT in the 53 block threads, it has a good breakdown of the differences in blocks, where they were made, etc etc. If I get a chance I'll look it up and post it for you, but it shouldn't be hard to find on your own either.

 

56 is the thickest produced.

I have a 56 block in mine---local Dodge dealer had Cummins to install it after my original 53 cracked---yours is probably a replacement too. What color is it painted ?
