I am pretty sure that they were not in the '02 's mostly in the 98.5 and 99's with a few in the 2000s.

Hey, my friend said that one of his for sale 98.5 dodges block has numbers 23 J 7? It's not a #53 blocker then?

I am not sure, did he looked at the right place so that's why I'm asking this.

Thanks.

From what I've read, there were no 53s in 02s. Some 01s have it though.

I looked at every truck I thought about buying. Every 98,99 and 00 I looked at had it. Every 01.5 I looked at did not.

The 53 is close to the front of the engine, right above the oil pan. Its in 1" tall letters, you can't miss it. Mine is a Mexican block with series of smaller numbers.

Yea yea. But there is a problem. That dodge is something like 10000miles from my house. But he only saw those numbers there. 23 J 7. I cant be sure, but does that match to mexican blocks numbers?

Actually there are by far more 53 blocks running around with no problems than there are that have cracked. I would not worry about buying another truck with a 53 block in it. Our 99 has 140,000 on it with the original block, IP and LP.

My 99 has 135K on it with the original block, IP, and I just replaced the LP today.

I don't have a pic, but if you look directly above the pitman arm, just above the seam where the oil pan meets the block, if you have it, you'll see it. On some, it's also on the passenger's side, in the area of the oil filter housing.

Geez, I can't believe how much this subject gets beat to death!
