53 block

i hear people talking about this block that cracks alot, so how do you know if you have it, what do i need to look at.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Do a search, you'll find plenty. As milage increases with no failure the probobaility of failure decreases. There is a way to measure block thickness to find out.

There's a 1" tall "53" on the lower front corner of the block, driver's side just above the oil pan. Its behind the vacuum pump and the battery cable is attached right by it and usually in the way of viewing it.
