5 Error Codes & No Power
5 Error Codes & No Power
I have a 99 diesel, 4x4, 5 speed, dually with 240,000 miles. The Engine Light came on and It would loose power. Sometimes it will all of a sudden regain power. I can't pull my horse trailer or anything else over 40 mph. Auto Zone checked for codes and they are: P0234, P0236, P0238, P0380 & P0382. Other than the power problem, it is fine. I hate to take it to the dealer, because I know it will cost a lot. I would at least like to have an idea of what the problem is so I don't get ripped off. Any help? Thanks

Looks like you may a few problems.
Codes point to MAP and grid heater relays or possibly grid heaters themselves.
This can be caused by a bad MAP and the relays. Or, battery/ charging issues, PCM failure, ECM issues, and the list goes on. It sounds like it's going into limp mode from the MAP though. Check that first and see if you can clear that code. If the MAP is bad, it can be checked with an ohmmeter. If you get an open or no continuity, it's bad.
Here's a breakdown of your codes.
P0234 P0234 (M) Turbo Boost Limit Exceeded Problem detected in turbocharger wastegate.
P0236 P0236 (M) Map Sensor Too High Too Long Problem detected in turbocharger wastegate.
P0238 P0238 (M) Map Sensor Voltage Too High MAP sensor voltage input above the maximum
acceptable voltage.
P0380 P0380 (M) Intake Air Heater Relay #1 Control
Circuit
Problem detected in #1 air heater solenoid/relay circuit
(not heater element)
P0382 P0382 (M) Intake Air Heater Relay #2 Control
Circuit
Problem detected in #2 air heater solenoid/relay circuit
(not heater element)

Most likely the turbo boost sensor is bad. Located left side rear of cylinder head. Heater will not cause a driveability problem unless it is very cold where you are. Most likely bad connections at the heater relays. The small wires activate the relays. The larger wires go to heater grid and battery.
