4WD vacuum fix
4WD vacuum fix
Hey there - Happy New Year - I've pretty much been a lurker here for a couple years, and have definitely got some great info here. I don't know if this is the correct place for this post or not.
Anyway, my 4wd drive light would flicker intermittently when I took it out of 4WD. Looked under the transfer case, and sure enough, one of my vacuum tubes was completely sheared. Not having the time, at the time, to replace the tube, my father in law and I came up with a temp fix that's been working pretty well so far in Northern AZ's snowy conditions. I took 2 different sizes of shrink tube (the stuff used for sealing electrical splices) and slipped the smaller over the sheared off ends, shrunk with a heat gun, and then the larger (for insurance) shrink tube and did the same. I meant to wrap some 100mph tape around it to protect from the elements, but forgot. Anyway, she goes in/out without a hitch and is still working well. One of these days I'll replace the tubes down there on the belly with some fuel line or something a little more substantial. Anyway, just wanted to pass this along in case someone else is looking for a quick fix to an annoying problem.
