neighbor had problem with 01 not engaging in 4wd tonight. he says the front driveshaft turns but the 4wd light does not come on and it is not in 4wd. i thought the 01's had no cad or something like that. i read it on here one time but no sure what it means. is this something electronically? thats what i thought but i am not sure what is going on with it. anyone have a clue what it could be?? need some help asap. thank you all

 

The 01's still had the CAD.

Vaccum operated arm that slides a collar connecting the two halfs of the front axle together, giving power to both front wheels.

He'll have to pull both lines off the box on the front axle and check for vacuum.
One line will have vaccum when 4x4 is selected on the transfer case shifter, the other will have vaccum when toodling around in 2 wheel drive.

If one or the other doesn't exist, he'll have to trace the lines back until he finds where it got disconnected, or the line rotted and got a hole.
