Big problem help please

Hello,
I have a 2000 dodge ram 2500 4x4 with the cummins diesel and auto tranny. My transmission recently blew so I had it rebuilt. The the transfer case started making awful noises so I took back to the shop thinking it was the linkage and maybe it was partly engaging 4wd. Well they told me the noise was from the transfer case and they fixed it. Well today the transfer case blew. The case itself literally split and the bearings inside seem to be all frozen. The reason, there was NO FLUID IN IT, I couldn't belive the shop did this. A couple months back I changed the diff fluid and checked the transfer case and I know it was full prior to taking it to them. My question is does the transfer case have to be removed when changing the tranny or can you leave it alone. At this point there trying to put the blame on me which is ******** and I need some facts to throw at them. Thanks for any help. Also if anyone knows a place that I can get a new transfer case let me know.

You can take it down as a unit but it is HEAVY. Most people split em.

I took mine down in peices and it was pretty simple, got lazy and tried to put it back up all in 1 peice, whatta mistake. Even broke the tranny jack because of trying to jimmy that much weight back and forth to get the shaft in.
